Text referendum 4 Wales: Swansea Launch

The 'Real Referendum' on whether Wales should have its own law making Parliament will be launched in Swansea by Plaid Cymru AM Dr. Dai Lloyd outside the Liberty Stadium on Monday November 7th at 11.45 a.m.

The 'Real Referendum' will be different from conventional and old fashioned 'walking to your village hall' affair as it is asking people to vote by text, and will last for a month before the final White Paper, ’Better Governance for Wales’ is released.

It is being organised by Cymru X, Plaid Cymru’s Youth Movement, but has support from a number of political parties in Wales including Forward Wales member and former Welsh Secretary Ron Davies.

It will ask 1 simple question: Do you think Wales should have its own Law-making Parliament? Voters will be asked to text 'Wales Yes' or 'Wales No' to 83010.

Dr. Dai Lloyd AM, speaking prior to the Swansea Launch stated:

“We in Swansea have been strong supporters of the devolution campaign. Remember we voted Yes back in 1997 whilst Cardiff voted No. This campaign is being organised by the youth of the party because they feel let down by the Labour politicians in Westminster who will not let the Welsh people get on in making decisions for themselves.

“The fact that we are launching in Swansea outside the wonderful new ‘Liberty’ Stadium is very fitting as the referendum gives the people of Swansea an opportunity to state whether they believe that Wales should be free to decide its own future."

Darren Price, Campaigns Officer for Cymru X said:

"This political first will be promoted by banners, flyers, posters, visits to areas all over Wales, and will be promoted via the internet in order to reach as much of the population of Wales as possible. We are very excited about this campaign and we hope to gather cross party support. Our aim is to gather awareness amongst people of all walks of life regarding the issues surrounding a Parliament for Wales."

2) CymruX - the Plaid Cymru youth movement has set-up the referendum through an independent company.

3) CymruX has endeavoured to make the referendum as neutral as possible. The question is not loaded and simply, 'Should Wales have its own law making Parliament?'

4) Votes will be monitored to ensure that no more than one vote from each mobile number is counted.
